New Delhi:

After she voted today, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra described the Aam Admi Party, headed by Arvind Kejriwal, as "an important opponent in this election."

When asked if the party centred on her family could learn from Mr Kejirwal, she responded,  "I am sure they too have a lot to learn from the Congress. Everyone learns from everyone."

Priyanka's mother and brother, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, are the top two leaders of the Congress, which has been eroded in less than two years from the dominant force in Delhi politics to a wallflower. Mr Kejriwal has been described by Congress leaders as a leader gifted in staging street protests and inept at governance.

Today's election in Delhi, just like a year ago, is a frenzied jitterbug between AAP and the BJP.

The gains for AAP -which was founded by Mr Kejriwal in 2012 with a pledge to combatting corruption have come almost entirely from the Congress.

In the 2013 Delhi elections, the Congress had won eight seats while AAP and BJP had bagged 28 and 31 seats respectively. Short of a majority, the BJP said that it would respect the voters' verdict and not try to form the government. Mr Kejriwal then ran a minority government for 49 days, before ending the term of his minority government with an abrupt resignation over the stalling of an anti-graft bill. He has asked voters to "forgive that mistake."
