Nurse helps apprehend a cheat

New Delhi: A 35-year-old nurse helped police arrest a man who allegedly attempted to cheat her by trying to pass off a bundle of paper as currency in exchange for her gold chain in New Delhi on Sunday.

Julie John, who works in a private clinic, was standing at a bus stop in Madangir near her residence to go to a church in Khan Market when Kanhaiya Lal approached her and allegedly offered money for her gold chain at around 11:30 AM.

"Lal entered into a conversation with her by asking the way to the railway station. Then he allegedly told her that he had just lost his job and he had picked up some money from his employee", a senior police official said.

"He then offered the money for her gold chain. She grew suspicious as she had heard from one of her colleagues that she was cheated in a similar way about three months ago," the official said.

The nurse then asked him to wait and informed her husband. The husband reached the spot and apprehended the man and handed Lal to police, he said.

The money he showed to John was just a wad of papers under a Rs 100 note. Lal was arrested and a case has been registered.
