With number of dengue cases touching 720, a concerned Delhi government on Tuesday asked municipal bodies to strictly carry out fogging exercise across the city and take steps urgently to contain mosquito breeding.
Health Minister A K Walia asked South, North and East Delhi municipal corporations as well as NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board to carry out fogging extensively and check mosquito breeding.
The minister issued the instructions at a high-level meeting called to review the situation arising out of rising number of dengue cases. A total of 35 new cases of dengue were reported on Tuesday.
The meeting was represented by top officials of Health Services, municipal health officers, medical superintendents of major hospitals of Delhi government, besides representatives of various blood banks.
Mr Walia asked municipal corporations to particularly check roof top water tanks and construction sites as they are the most fertile breeding ground for mosquito causing dengue.
The Health Minister also asked RWAs and citizens to cooperate with mosquito breeding checkers so that spread of the vector borne disease can be controlled.
He issued directive that domestic breeding checkers and field staff as well as their supervisors must be effectively managed by senior officers. Any lapse on the part of senior officers will be seriously viewed and call for disciplinary action.
Till Tuesday, maximum number of cases have been reported from areas under South Delhi Municipal Corporation (263) followed by North Delhi Municipal Corporation (240) and East Delhi Municipality (184).
