Unable to bear the atrocities meted out by in-laws, a woman along with her three minor sons allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well in Giridih district, police said on Sunday.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prabhat Ranjan Barwar said police is investigating the case from all angles to ascertain if it was a case of suicide or murder. Jubaida Khatoon, 35 and her three sons - Mozmil, 11, Mozsir, 8 and Danish, 5, allegedly jumped into a well yesterday night in Nimadih village under Rajdhanwar police station.
A police team rushed to the village when informed that Jubaida along with her three minor sons were missing at around 11 pm on Saturday, Officer Barwar said.
Villagers told the police that they had retrieved the bodies and kept them near the well, he said.
Jubaidas husband Manowar Ansari and other family members have been missing following the incident, he said.
The SDPO said Jubaida Khatoon, who got married to Ansari 15 years ago, was allegedly subjected to torture for dowry.
