Pune:
Jaysheelan Karan, a standard XII student of Kendriya Vidyalaya Southern Command, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the bathroom of his residence on Sunday evening.
According to the police, the deceased, who took the extreme step between 7.30 pm and 8 pm, was a bright student and a good basketball player.
Although the reason for the suicide is yet to be established, it was learnt that he was depressed over poor performance in academics.
The boy's father, a subedar in the Indian Army, stayed at a bungalow near Gurudwara in Jogila Lines at Ghorpadi. The school principal, Joshua Hastings, confirmed the incident but refused to speak on the issue.
The Mundhwa police station has recorded the incident as an accidental death.
The victim's parents were in a state of shock and have left for Madurai to perform the final rites, the police officials said.
