The long and tedious process of sale and submission of forms for admission to Delhi University this academic session concluded on Friday with over 1.80 lakh forms being sold for 54,000 seats on offer.
The number of forms sold at an estimated 1.86 lakh is over 30,000 more than last year's figure of 1,49,000, officials said.
The process of admissions to the university's colleges began on May 28 and thousands of students flocked to North and South campus for buying forms, counseling sessions and submitting.
"The number of forms sold increases every year as compared to the last year, but this year the increase was a little more than usual," said S K Vij, Dean Students' Welfare, DU.
He said, however, the increase in number of aspirants will mean more students will go back disappointed given the seats are limited.
"Though, we are happy that the exercise went off without any glitches and that we were able to hold all open days and counseling sessions as planned," he said.
Deputy Dean Students Welfare Seema Parihar said given that each student would have opted for a number of course choices in their forms, that makes the aspirant to seat ration even larger technically.
The first cut-off list for various courses in the colleges will be announced on June 22.
The University has added 5,000 seats to its last year's kitty of 49,000, completing the process of implementation of the 27 per cent OBC quota.
The University started increasing the number of seats in 2006-07 in three phases, by 18 per cent each year, and has achieved the 54 per cent increase needed to achieve the 27 per cent quota this year.
Through the mechanism, the University has increased the number of seats for reserved categories while keeping the number of general seats at the same number.
