Delhi man fakes death to escape jail

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a young man, along with his associate, for faking his own killing in order to avoid jail.

According to police, Karma (32) killed an unidentified person at Bhalswa Dairy on June 22. During interrogation, Karma revealed that he was wanted in several cases, including some under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Delhi and Punjab.

"He was living in Punjab and planned this killing to avoid jail. He came to Delhi and met his friend Satnam (20). On June 22, the duo found a person lying in an inebriated condition near Gandhi Vihar. They took him to an isolated place at Bhalswa Dairy and strangled him to death," said N S Bundela, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North-West Delhi.

"They then sprinkled petrol on the body and set it on fire. Karma left his identification documents near the body," the DCP said.

"The Bhalswa Dairy police station received a PCR call about a charred body. The police team reached the spot to find a half-burnt body. They also found ID-card and some documents belonging to Karma near the body. The police then called his family members from Punjab, who identified the body as that of Karma," said Bundela.

The family members were given the body. However, on some specific lead, the police investigated the case further.

"Our team received information that the body was not of Karma and that he is still alive. The police started a hunt for Karma. He was found near a Gurdwara at Bhalswa Dairy on Tuesday. The police team arrested him and on his tip off Satnam Singh was too held," Bundela added.

Karma Aggrawal and his associate Satnam have been charged with murder. The deceased is yet to be identified and the police are investigating the case for further leads.
