Chennai: In a heart warming development, a missing dog of a German couple, who are on a world tour, has been found in Chennai, three months after the dog was lost on Marina beach, where the family was camping.

On her Facebook page the young lady Janin Scharrenberg said, "The happiest day of my life! Thanks to everyone who has been helping us. you are amazing. Thank you for every picture." The couple had adopted the labrador mix from the streets of Greece as a puppy. Soon they obtained a passport for him and took him along for their world tour on a camper.

Besides a search via social media, posters were put up in all petrol stations announcing a reward of Rs 60,000. Lots of Chennaites have been sending pictures of various dogs that resembled Luke.

On Saturday a  youngster had contacted Vijaya Narayanan, an animal rescuer who has been tracing the dog and soon the embedded microchip confirmed the dog is Luke.

Vijaya is so excited. She said, "It's so fulfilling. I'm so overwhelmed. This is the way Chennai should treat a tourist and almost everyone  looked Luke as their pet and were on the lookout".

The dog was sleeping under their camp van, with the leash tied to the tyre when he went missing. An eye witness had reportedly told the couple that someone took the dog away in an auto rickshaw.
