Here are the latest updates:

  1. Mr Shah said "all options before the party are open" in Jammu and Kashmir, where the BJP is second after the PDP. BJP sources have said that the party is not inclined to join hands with the PDP, but a final call will be taken by the parliamentary board, a team of 12 top decision makers, tomorrow.

  2. In Jharkhand, Mr Shah said the people had elected a majority government for the first time and promised the state "a good and stable government."

  3. "The year 2014 is the year of unprecedented success for BJP... I thank the people of Jharkhand and J&K," the BJP chief said.

  4. The PDP, which is leading in 30 seats, is in a position to call the shots in J&K. Numerically, it can ally with the BJP which is leading in 25 seats, or even with the Congress, which is ahead in 11 seats, along with others. To form government in J&K, a party or alliance needs 44 of the state's 87 seats.

  5. The PDP's Mufti Mohammed Sayeed seems in place to be the next chief minister of J&K. The Congress has indicated that it is open to partnering with the PDP, but, partyman Ghulam Nabi Azad said "the PDP must take the first step."

  6. The biggest gainer in J&K is the BJP, with a commanding performance in the Jammu region. The big loser is Omar Abdullah's National Conference. Mr Abdullah, who contested two seats, lost in Sonawar and won in Beerwah.

  7. Former separatist leader Sajjad Lone of the People's Conference has won from Handwara. Before the elections, Mr Lone called PM Modi "like my older brother." He has not ruled out a post-election tie-up with the BJP.

  8. In Jharkhand, the BJP along with allies is leading in 41 seats, the number it needs for a majority in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha of Chief Minister Heman Soren is ahead in 18 seats. The Congress is wiped out.

  9. The big headline in Jharkhand is the felling of many stalwarts. Outgoing chief minister Hemant Soren of the JMM, former chief minister Madhu Koda of the Jai Bharat Samanta Party and Arjun Munda of the BJP have lost. Babulal Marandi of the JVM is trailing.

  10. The BJP did not name a chief ministerial candidate in Jharkhand this time and built its campaign around PM Modi and his development agenda. Mr Shah said, "Want to congratulate PM Modi. His government's work in six months had a role to play in this electoral victory."
