Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch its first electric SUV, that is the e-Vitara, soon. While the brand has not yet confirmed the date, it is expected to launch in December 2025.

On 26th August 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially flagged off the first unit of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara as it rolled off the production line. This event also marked the inauguration of Maruti Suzuki's first facility dedicated to manufacturing hybrid battery electrodes. The most recent development regarding the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara indicates that the SUV is steadily approaching its anticipated launch timeline, which is expected to take place in December.

Also, Maruti Suzuki commenced the exports of Suzuki's first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e-Vitara, in August. Over 2,900 units of the e-Vitara were shipped from Pipavav Port in Gujarat to 12 European countries - the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium.

The e-Vitara is exclusively manufactured at Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat manufacturing facility. The start of exports marked a key milestone in Suzuki's roadmap to establish India as the global production hub for e-Vitara.

The e-Vitara was first introduced globally in Europe late last year and was showcased in India at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. It is constructed on the 40PL dedicated EV platform, created in collaboration with Toyota, which will also produce a Toyota version called the Urban Cruiser EV.

The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara also proved its safety prowess by securing a 4-star safety rating on the Euro NCAP test bed. The brand's first electric SUV bagged a 77 per cent safety rating in Adult Occupant protection. In the Child Occupant Safety test, it registered an 85 percent safety score.

This electric SUV will offer two battery options: 49kWh and 61kWh, with the larger battery available in a dual-motor AWD (AllGrip-e) configuration. Details regarding the variants, features, and the launch timeline in India are expected to be revealed in the near future.
