Mahindra is working on the development of multiple new models. Among these is the upcoming Vision S SUV. While the model has been officially presented only in concept form, the test mule is already out there evaluating the mechanics and other functions of the SUV. Based on the images revealed, the unit seems to be edging closer to a production version and will likely bring the brand into the sub-4m category with a rather rugged design.

Mahindra Vision S: Design

Based on the pictures, the Mahindra Vision S maintains an upright stance, flat body panels, and squared-off proportions, elements commonly seen on larger, off-road-focused SUVs. These cues suggest that Mahindra is following a rugged, purposeful design direction, while keeping the overall dimensions compact for urban usability. Despite the camouflage, the vehicle's silhouette indicates a well-balanced mix of toughness and practicality.

Mahindra Vision S: Highlights

One of the most notable observations from the new images is the confirmation of a diesel powertrain. The presence of an AdBlue cap next to the fuel filler clearly indicates a BS6 Phase-2 compliant diesel engine. Inside, the automatic gear lever confirms that this specific test unit uses an automatic transmission. In the sub-4-metre SUV category, diesel-automatic combinations remain uncommon, giving Mahindra a unique edge once the model reaches showrooms.

Mahindra Vision S: Interior

The vehicle spied appears to represent a mid-level trim. This is supported by the use of halogen turn indicators and fabric seat upholstery, along with Mahindra's standard steering wheel instead of the illuminated-logo version seen on premium models. However, the cabin design remains faithful to the Vision S concept revealed by Mahindra in August last year.

The dashboard design, air vents, and overall architecture stay consistent, while physical buttons for the infotainment and climate control systems have been retained for improved functionality. A prominent feature observed inside the cabin is the panoramic sunroof, which stretches nearly to the rear headrests. Rear seat features include adjustable headrests for all three passengers and a 60:40 split-fold function, promising improved versatility and space efficiency.

Mahindra Vision S: Powertrain

Alongside the diesel automatic, the Vision S is also expected to offer petrol options, possibly Mahindra's 1.2-litre turbo unit from the XUV 3XO lineup and a 1.5-litre diesel engine similar to the one used in the Thar.
