Ferrari has officially unveiled the Luce EV, marking a significant moment for the Italian marque as it steps into a new era of electrification. Positioned as a regular production model rather than a limited-run showcase, the Ferrari Luce combines electric performance with an unconventional design philosophy. With up to 1,035 hp on tap and a claimed range of around 530 km, it aims to redefine what a modern Ferrari can be.

Radical Design

The Ferrari Luce stands apart with a design that breaks away from traditional supercar proportions. Developed by Ferrari's Centro Stile in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design firm founded by Jony Ive, the Luce prioritises aerodynamic efficiency over familiar styling cues.

Measuring 5019 mm in length and sitting lower than the Purosangue, the Luce features a teardrop-shaped passenger cell enclosed within an aluminium body. The front section has a wing-like structure, while the hood and windshield merge seamlessly into a single flowing surface. Even details such as the patented windshield wipers have been engineered to enhance airflow.

With a drag coefficient of just 0.254 Cd, achieved without active aerodynamics, the focus on efficiency is evident. Large wheels, measuring 23 inches at the front and 24 inches at the rear, further support its bold stance, while round tail lamps add a distinctive touch.

Premium Cabin

Inside, the Ferrari Luce blends minimalism with craftsmanship. The cabin reflects Jony Ive's design influence through its use of aluminium, glass, and refined digital interfaces. Interestingly, despite being technology-forward, the Luce does not overwhelm occupants with screens. The central display can be rotated toward the passenger, eliminating the need for a separate screen.

A key highlight is the five-seat layout, made possible by the absence of a transmission tunnel. Rear seat comfort has been significantly improved, and space for luggage, which stands as the largest ever in a Ferrari. Material quality and attention to detail are central to the interior experience, with Ferrari focusing on tactile feedback and visual harmony across every surface.

Electric Powertrain

At the heart of the Luce is a quad-motor setup, with each wheel powered independently. Developed entirely in-house, these permanent-magnet motors draw from Ferrari's experience in Formula 1 and endurance racing.

The rear motors produce 355 kW each, while the front units generate 105 kW each, contributing to a combined output of up to 1,035 hp. The motors operate at extremely high speeds, with front units reaching 30,000 rpm.

An 800-volt battery pack, integrated structurally into the chassis, lowers the centre of gravity and enhances driving dynamics. Ferrari claims the setup delivers a driving feel comparable to significantly lighter sports cars. The Luce also supports fast charging up to 350 kW and offers an eight-year unlimited-mileage warranty on the powertrain.

New Driving Dynamics

Ferrari has introduced a unique approach to driver engagement in the Luce. Instead of traditional gear shifts, the steering-mounted paddles control torque delivery and regenerative braking through a system called Torque Shift Engagement.

Drivers can adjust power delivery and braking intensity across five levels each, allowing for precise control during cornering and acceleration. Combined with torque vectoring and rear-wheel steering, this system aims to deliver an engaging and highly adaptable driving experience.

Sound, Range, and Pricing

Addressing the emotional aspect of performance, Ferrari has developed a sound system that captures real vibrations from the electric motors and refines them into a distinctive acoustic signature. Drivers can choose to enable or disable this feature depending on preference.

The Ferrari Luce offers a claimed range of approximately 530 km on a full charge. Prices start at 550,000 Euro (around Rs 6.10 crore), with extensive customisation options expected to significantly influence the final cost.Fe
