BYD, one of the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturers, seems to be planning further expansion of its presence in the country. This will likely come in the form of the launch of the Atto 2 compact electric SUV, which is currently on the test bed. The test mule of the vehicle has been spied testing on Indian roads, revealing quite a few details matching the version available in the international market. It is to be noted that this model is already on sale in some international markets, including China, Brazil, and Europe.

The model on test is covered in camouflage but reveals quite a few details. To begin with, the SUV has a distinct rear spoiler along with a unique design for the taillamps. Furthermore, the design of the bumper is easy to identify. This is complemented by prominent curves on the body panels. Along with this, the SUV gets a sleek design for the LED lights, body cladding, a unique design for the alloy wheels, and more.

The international version of the BYD Atto 2 is sold has a length of 4,310 mm, a width of 1,830 mm, a height of 1,675 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. All of this makes the electric SUV a suitable rival for the Hyundai Creta Electric on sale in the country. It will also face competition from Maruti Suzuki's first electric vehicle in the country, i.e., the eVitara (or eEscudo, if renamed).

Talking of the powertrain, the BYD Atto 2 comes with a 45.1 kWh battery pack powering a 175 hp electric motor producing 290 Nm of peak torque. This package offers a claimed range of 380 km on a single charge. Meanwhile, the top speed is limited to 160 kmph. Once the battery is drained, it can be charged using a 65 kW DC fast charger.
