Imran to organize protests for Zardari's London visit
Lahore: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has announced that his Tehreek-e-Insaf party will organise protests against President Asif Ali Zardari for going ahead for his scheduled visit to Britain at a time when Pakistan has been hit by the worst floods in eight decades.

"The country is in the grip of the worst floods that have unleashed widespread devastation, especially in Kyber Pakhtunkhawah province, leaving hundreds of dead and millions homeless. In view of these circumstances, President Zardari should have suspended his planned visit to the UK," Khan said while addressing a convention of party workers here today.

Khan said people were dying due to severe floods and need the government's help but the rulers' focus was on the proxy war of the US.

He also demanded that politicians should make public details of their properties outside the country.

Several other politicians had asked Zardari to call off his visit to protest anti-Pakistan remarks made by British Prime Minister David Cameron during his recent visit to India.

PML-N leader and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the brother of former premier Nawaz Sharif, and Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain had said Zardari should not go ahead with the visit to build up pressure on Britain.

Both leaders described Cameron's remarks as lamentable. Cameron had accused Pakistan of patronising the export of terror to Afghanistan and India.

Zardari left France last night. He is scheduled to arrive in Britain on August 3.
