Locals attack cops in Krishnagar after youth goes missing

Krishnagar (West Bengal): Agitated locals on Wednesday attacked a police camp at Hridaypur, Nadia district in West Bengal, injuring eight cops in protest against improper investigation about a missing local, whom they fear has been murdered for not paying Rs 10 after losing a football match.

A group of around 200 people, mostly women, pelted stones at police leaving eight of them injured. They were later lathicharged, said police.

Tentul Mondal (30) is missing from his house at Hridaypur since Saturday, said police quoting a complaint from his father.

During Durga Puja, he had gone to play a local football match and after losing the match, he had refused to pay the entry fee of Rs 10.

"Later five of the locals came to our house and threatened me to kill my son," alleged his father.

Police have, however, arrested three persons in the case so far.
