Coast Guard apprehends five Sri Lankan fishermen

Chennai: Five Sri Lankan fishermen have been apprehended for fishing in Indian waters without licence, coast guard said.

While on patrol, ICGS Ahalya Bai of the Coast Guard found a Sri Lankan vessel with five fishermen fishing in Indian waters off the Andhra Pradesh coast without license around 1530 hours on May 14, sources said.

The fishermen were booked under Section 3/10 of the Maritime Zones Act of India, 1981 and later handed over to Chennai Police, they said.

A fish catch of over 2000 kg were also seized.
