Actor assaulted by three men as Mumbai crowd watches

Mumbai: A small crowd watched as a woman actor was assaulted by three men in a Mumbai suburb after she tried to stop them from stealing her purse.

Nobody tried to intervene as the men thrashed Loveleen Kaur, who is in her 20s, and is a popular TV actor.

She was travelling in an auto-rickshaw when a man tried to grab her purse and run away.

Ms Kaur jumped out of the auto and chased the robber, who was soon joined by two other men. They then circled the actor and began beating her. She has sustained minor bruises.

Cops at a police outpost nearby heard her cries for help and managed to nab two of the accused. The third suspect has yet to be found.

The case comes at a time when the safety of women in Mumbai has become a matter of intense debate following last week's gang-rape of a 22-year-old photojournalist in the heart of the city.
