Haryana Sarpanch Killed Hours After Election, Runner-Up's Son Is Suspect
Jind: A newly elected village head was shot dead allegedly by the son of the candidate who lost to him in panchayat polls in Haryana's Khedi Taloura village.

Accused Vijay, who is absconding, allegedly opened fire at 45-year-old Rakesh on Sunday evening after the results of the polls were declared, Jind Senior Superintendent of Police Abishek Jorwal said.

"We have rounded up his father Satbir Singh who lost the polls, but Vijay is absconding," he added.

Mr Yadav had sold his two acre land to contest the panchayat polls held on January 10.

Caste rivalry is believed to be the reason behind the killing. Police have rounded up half a dozen men named as accused by the victim's family.

Police have registered a case of murder against Vijay.

Panchayat polls for the first phase in Haryana were conducted on Sunday and results were declared the same evening.
