National rifle body slapped with Rs 8 crore fine

New Delhi: The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has been slapped with a fine of Rs 8 crore by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) after it found sufficient evidence to prove that the national sports body had been selling arms and ammunition to its state affiliates and shooters for profits.

The association, however, defends itself. " We are not making any profit. We are not a commercial venture. Everything is on paper; we only added our cost of importing," said NRAI secretary Rajiv Bhatia, speaking to NDTV.

The Rifle Association also says the shooting camp going on in Pune to prepare for the Commonwealth games will not be cancelled.
