Nagaon, Assam: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a rally in poll-bound Assam today, alleging that his government has failed to deliver on the promises made in his "marketing blitz" campaign.

"I have a friend. He needed a computer. So he looked up on the Internet. He found a company with great photos, with many things said about the brand. So he gave an order. A packet arrived. He got it home. But when he opened the box there was a piece of wood inside. He has been asking for a refund since," Mr Gandhi said, addressing a rally in Assam's Nagaon.

"This is exactly what's happening to India. Modi ji came on a blitz of marketing but there was no product. Till today India is asking for a refund," he said.

Mr Gandhi also attacked the BJP over the Jat quota stir saying that Haryana which was progressing under the Congress was up in flames after the BJP came to power.

Rahul Gandhi shared the stage with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

He also repeated his 'Fair and Lovely' jibe at the Prime Minister saying that instead of bringing back black money, PM Modi was helping thieves. "You speak well, you give good speeches but you are hollow inside," he said.

Mr Gandhi has begun his campaign in Assam which is due to vote for its Assembly elections in two phases on April 4 and April 11.

With BJP putting together a coalition of several regional parties in its attempt to usurp the Tarun Gogoi government, Mr Gandhi has claimed that the Opposition coalition will destroy the "brotherhood and progress" which the 15-year-old rule of Congress has ushered in Assam.
