Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde updates parliament on Hyderabad terror attack: highlights

New Delhi: Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is making a statement in Parliament on the two bomb blasts in Hyderabad's Dilsukhnagar area.

Highlights of Mr Shinde's statement:

  • A total of 16 persons died and 117 injured  of which 4 are critical
  • Two cases have been registered
  • NIA will investigate the case in conjunction with the police
  • Today I reviewed the situation with Governor, CM, Chief of police and other senior officers
  • Honorouble PM has announced ex-gratia of 6 lakhs to deceased
  • Situation is under control, I extend my heartfelt condolences to bereaved families
  • Govt committed to fighting terror

Sushma Swaraj, Leader of the Opposition:
    • This is a very routine statement from Home Minister
    • Just recap what happened and tell us what compensation has been announced
    • We don't want to assign blame, we should all fight terror together
    • But we can only do that if we have the same approach
    • And we don't seem to have that
    • You said that state governments were updated about a possible terror strike
    • You took nine years to hang Afzal Guru (convicted for his role in parliament attack)
    • After centre's alert on possible terror strike, did you try to help the state government stop the attack?
    • What did you do to assist the state government?
    • An MP from Hyderabad is related to someone who made deeply provocative statements lately....is this strike triggered by that speech?
    • Can this house today also fix the ex-gratia payment made in these cases? Different amounts are paid in ompensation, that needs to be uniform

    Venkaiah Naidu, BJP leader:

    • You have not done any favour to us
    • The incident happened at 7 yesterday evening. The home minister could have gone then and been available to the house
    • This is that handiwork of our neighbour
    • In Pakistan, Hafiz Saeed and others have held a meeting and said they will take revenge against the hanging of Afzal Guru
    • Also I have a statement of Delhi Police from October that a recce was conducted in DilsukhNagar in Hyderabad
    • What else do you need? What are the steps the government has taken?
    • The Home Minister's statement has no concrete road map to fight terrorism
