Heavy rains, landslides hit Himachal Pradesh, rivers flow above danger mark

Shimla: Normal life was thrown out of gear in Himachal today as heavy rains triggered landslides, road breaches and uprooted trees, blocking roads in the interior areas.

All the major rivers and their tributaries in the state are flowing above danger mark.

The rains inundated low-lying areas in Jungle Berry in lower hills while uprooted trees blocked highways in Nurpur and adjoining areas.

Incessant heavy rains forced people to stay indoors and people living along the banks of the rivers have been asked to remain alert.

Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur district was wettest in the region with 187 mm of rains till this morning while Nahan and Renuka in Sirmaur district recorded 185 mm and 169 mm rains.

Intermittent rains are continuing in the region, causing marginal fall in maximum day temperature.

However, the minimum night temperatures dropped by one to three degrees to stay at 20.8 degree at Hamirpur, Chamba and Kangra, 20.5 degree at Dharamsala and Una, 20.0 degree in Solan, 19.0 degree at Palampur and 17.7 degree at Shimla.

The local MeT office has warned of very heavy rains at some places and rains and thundershowers at many places in the state during next 24 hours as a cyclonic circulation extending upto 0.9 km above sea level, lies over Punjab and adjoining Haryana.
