Fire Reported From Accounts Office In Rashtrapati Bhavan, Situation Under Control

The Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official home of the President of India.

New Delhi: A fire broke out in the accounts branch of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday morning which was doused within minutes. No casualty has been reported.

News Agency PTI quoted an official from the Delhi Fire Services as saying that a call was received today at 8.45 am about a fire. Six fire brigade trucks were rushed to the sport and the fire was doused within 10 minutes. An inverter, a chair and a table were gutted in the fire.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be a short-circuit and further probe is underway, the fire official said.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official home of the President of India. Situated in New Delhi's Rajpath, it was designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1929. It used to be the official residence of the Viceroy in pre-independence India.

A few days ago, a minor fire in the server room of Parliament House had caused a panic ahead of the Budget session. The room number 50, from where smoke was seen around 9.40 pm on Tuesday houses the Control Room of the Lok Sabha Television channel. The fire started in the UPS of a computer, according to PTI and the fire was doused within 15 minutes, according to Delhi's Chief fire officer Atul Garg. The control room is located two rooms away from where a meeting of the Cabinet was to be held on Wednesday, February 1, before the presentation of the Union Budget by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
