BJP condemns shoe-throwing incident at PM's rally
New Delhi:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday strongly condemned the shoe-throwing incident at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's rally and termed it as an unestablished means of protest in a democracy.

"We have always condemned such incidents. Because in a democratic set up you can protest through established means and this is not the way to protest. We disapprove of it," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said in New Delhi.

On Congress' accusation that the incident showed the law and order prevailing in Gujarat under Narendra Modi, Javadekar said, "The Congress charge is rubbish. When such an incident happened in Delhi against Chidambaram, what did it show?"

Meanwhile, another party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad, referring to the earlier incidents of shoe-throwing at Chidambaram's and Advani's events, said, "Whatever may be the case, it is condemnable. We condemn it outright."

Prasad said these incidents should be checked immediately and that the Gujarat Police would take appropriate action against the person who threw the shoe at the Prime Minister.

"All political parties should come together and appeal to the people. This kind of behaviour is condemnable," Prasad said.
