Delhi gang-rape accused has criminal history, claim neighbours

New Delhi: The Delhi police has arrested four people in connection with the gang-rape of a 23-year-old medical student in a moving bus on Sunday night. All four men lived in a slum cluster in South Delhi. The hunt is on for the two other accused in the case. NDTV visited this slum cluster to try and get a profile of these men, accused in the ghastly incident.

Driver of the chartered bus Ram Singh, 30, who is the main accused in the case, and his brother Mukesh, 25, were unmarried and were living in Ravidas slum cluster in south Delhi's RK Puram area for over 20 years. Neighbours of the brothers claim that Ram Singh had a previous criminal record and had been involved earlier in incidents like chain snatching.

Hari Ram Sharma, whose undergraduate son -Vinay Sharma, a gym instructor - has been arrested, told NDTV, "If my son has done it, the harshest of punishment should be given to him, otherwise he should be let off."

Vinay was arrested on Tuesday morning while the other three were arrested Monday. Two more accused - Akshay Thakur and Raju - are still at large.
