Vishwakarma Institute of Technology inks pact with Pennsylvania State University

Pune: City-based Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT) on Tuesday signed a pact with the Pennsylvania State University of the US.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, the vice-president of Vishwakarma Group of Institute, Hemant Abhyankar, said the tie-up would prove beneficial to the students of the institute.

"Being an autonomous institute we have decided to give as much exposure as possible to our students about foreign courses and so we decided to sign a pact with the Pennsylvania State University," he said.

Abhyankar said, "VIT students, who have completed two years of their course can pursue the remaining two years of their course at the Pennsylvania State University and secure a degree from that varsity."

VIT is the sixth educational institute in the country and the only one in the city which has tied up with the foreign university.

Director of Pennsylvania State Commonwealth Campuses India initiative, Samir Shah said, "The students who complete the course at the university will be awarded a BSc in information and technology. We have decided to enrol around 10 students from VIT, but that will be purely on merit."

"The students of VIT will be charged the same fees as the Pennsylvania State University students. Therefore, the interested students will have to bear the course fee themselves."

Abhyankar added that the tie-up would help boost intercultural exchanges and the exposure will give an edge to Indian students.
