Mumbai: Driver loses control of milk van, biker killed

Mumbai: Police officers from the Chembur police station have arrested a milk delivery van driver, who allegedly lost control over his vehicle, and then hit a water tanker and a bike, thereby causing the death of the biker.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, when the accused Dharamsen Yadav, 43, lost control of the milk delivery van he was driving near the Amar Mahal junction.

"Yadav was driving at a high speed, and lost control over his vehicle. He first hit a water tanker, and then hit the biker.

The biker was heading towards Worli from Govandi, on the same road.

The incident took place at around 6:30am, and it is suspected that Yadav was driving at a high speed as he was running late in delivering the milk parcels.

The water tanker driver also suffered injuries in the accident, after being hit by Yadav's van, but the biker suffered major injuries to his head and face.

The biker has been identified as Iqlaq Ahmed Arshad Ali, 31. "He was rushed to the Rajawadi Hospital by people present at the spot, but was declared dead before admission," said a police officer from Chembur police station.

Police have sent Ali's body for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. It is suspected that he died of head injuries that he suffered after being hit by Yadav's van.

Ali worked at the Four Seasons hotel in Worli. On Wednesday, he was on his way to his workplace on his Hero Honda motorbike, which was hit by Yadav's van. People present at the spot managed to nab Yadav, and handed him over to police.

Police have booked Yadav for rash and negligent driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and endangering the personal safety of others.
