Chennai Flood: 100 Hearing-Impaired Children Stuck in School, Nothing to Eat

100 children are stranded in a school in the suburbs of Chennai after record rain

Chennai: Around 100 hearing-impaired children and their teachers are stranded in a school in the suburbs of Chennai, where record rain has left large parts of the city flooded.

Water entered the MGR school in Ramapuram last evening and the kitchen was flooded after a night of rain.

The children, who stay in the hostel, have had not eaten today. There is no electricity in the school either.

Appeals were made on their behalf to the army, navy and disaster response personnel who have been out in the city rescuing people from their homes, buses, cars and other buildings.

All schools and colleges have been closed for days and exams have been postponed.

Most of Chennai is flooded after the worst rain in 100 years. Weather officials have predicted more rain in the coming days.

Rain water has flooded the airport, grounded all flights, stalled trains and forced the shutdown of the Saidapet bridge over river Adyar that runs through the city.
