Civic body to charge debris dumpers

Bangalore: The public who have not removed the construction materials from the road even after the completion of building construction will have to shell out money from their pocket as the BBMP commissioner Siddaiah has directed the officials to collect extra ground rent from the people.

The ground rent is taken from the public who use the public road for keeping the construction materials. The time period given by the BBMP is six months. But during the inspection at the Bommanahalli zone, Siddaiah directed the officials to collect extra ground rent for using the road for keeping construction materials and also constructing additional work than what is in the approved plan.

Siddaiah said that the BBMP has lost a lot of revenue due to the negligence of the officials. The officials should collect the ground rent and action will be taken against the officers if they fail. Regarding the property tax, Siddaiah said that out of the 1.82 lakh properties in Bommanahalli zone, the survey work for 1.78 lakh properties has been completed.

By December 31, the complete survey work will be done. The BBMP has already collected Rs 80 crore and has set a target to collect a total of Rs 195 crore by year end. Special notice will be given to property owners who avoid property tax and provide wrong information regarding their property.

Siddaiah also found illegal road cuttings and digging more than the permit for getting civic amenity work at new zones and directed the officials to collect fine from the property owners.
