Supreme Court dismisses petition on postponing UP and Uttarakhand polls
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday declined to interfere in the conduct of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, dismissing a petition seeking rescheduling of elections in the two states.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice SH Kapadia said it was not for the court to decide on the election schedule.

Petitioner CP Vyas had sought a rescheduling of the balloting on grounds that it clashed with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination as well as municipal elections in Uttar Pradesh besides severe cold in Uttarakhand.

Uttar Pradesh will have staggered voting in February. Uttarakhand will see election on January 30.
