Kerala MP For Assent to Bill Banning Coca Cola to Draw Water

New Delhi: A strong plea was made by a Communist Part of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) member for urgent Presidential assent to a Kerala bill prohibiting Coca Cola to extract ground water in the state.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, MB Rajesh said the legislation was pending at the Centre as Union Home Ministry was not taking action for more than three years.

"Someone is sabotaging. Someone in government is trying to help Coca Cola," he said, seeking early Presidential assent to the bill.

The matter figured among several issues raised during Zero Hour, which also saw Congress member Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury drawing the government's attention to the state of affairs in state-run MTNL.

He said MTNL services lagged much behind other telecom companies and there was need for it to adopt state-of-the-art technology to overcome the challenges.

Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena) drew the government's attention to the plight of state-owned Hindustan Antibiotics Limited, which he said was on the verge of closure.

He said employees of the company have not got salary for six months and it was time the government revived it.
