A 25-year battle for inheritance in one of India's most famous royal families is set to end in a Gujarat court today.
Estranged members of the royal Gaekwad family of the former princely state Baroda are expected to arrive at a settlement in a district court in Vadodara.
The recently crowned Maharaja of Vadodara Samarjitsinh Gaekwad is expected to sign a deal with his uncle Sangramsinh, to end the dispute over property worth about Rs 20,000 crores.
Sangramsinh and his brother, late Ranjitsinh Gaekwad, had been locked in a legal battle since 1990 over ancestral property that includes palaces, gold jewelry and diamonds, paintings and real estate.
Sangramsinh, his wife Asharaje, their son Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad and daughter-in-law Pragyashree Gaekwad met Ranjitsinh's son Samarjitsinh at the family's Laxmi Vilas Palace on Tuesday for final negotiations.
Five sisters of Ranjitsinh Gaekwad are also believed to have agreed to the settlement.
