Two Killed in Political Clashes in West Bengal's Birbhum

Alleged supporters of Trinamool, BJP clashed in Birbhum in West Bengal

Birbhum: Two people died after being shot today in West Bengal's Birbhum district during clashes between alleged supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP.

Police vehicles were also allegedly bombed in the violence that erupted in Makra village.

Additional forces have been sent and large gatherings have been banned.

The clashes, which began over reports of a BJP delegation visiting the area, took place not far from a village where bombs were hurled last week at a police team that had gone to investigate reports of bombs stored at a health centre.

The police raid team was attacked with bombs, sticks and bricks. Earlier, they had seized several plastic drums full of crude bombs from the health centre at a nearby village.

At least 10 people have been arrested for the violence and remanded in judicial custody till November 14.

The attacks come over a month after workers, believed to be from the Trinamool, allegedly roughed up an officer inside the Bolpur police station in Birbhum district.
