Two Held For Allegedly Raping Two Sisters in Rajasthan

The women, aged 18 and 20, had alleged that they were waylaid by two men who attacked and raped them while they were on their way home.

Barmer: Two men have been arrested for allegedly raping two sisters in a village near Barmer district in Rajasthan reportedly on August 16, while search is on for a third accused.

The women, aged 18 and 20, had alleged that they were waylaid by two men who attacked and raped them while they were on their way home from the local police station.

Meanwhile, the police have also suspended a constable for allegedly refusing to register their complaint.

The women had also alleged police inaction, claiming that the local police station agreed to lodge an FIR or first information report on their complaint only after they approached a senior police officer.

But for the sisters, the trauma does not end here. They say the entire village has been ostracising their family for the past one year due to a personal dispute that led to the murder of their cousin.

One of the sisters told NDTV, "My uncle's son was murdered and my brother and sister were wrongly accused in the case."

However the local police claim the women did not mention the social ostarcism when they visited to register their complaint.

Meanwhile, social activists are demanding the immediate arrest of a third accused. "One man is being protected. He is politically influential so hes being protected. He was involved in the gang-rape, so he should be arrested. How can he roam freely," said activist Kavita Srivastava.

The victims who had refused to go back to their village earlier, have now returned with police protection.
