Singur: Calcutta High Court rejects Tatas' petition

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has rejected Tata prayer for stay on return of Singur land to unwilling farmers, as Tata had not stated in petition that state was going to return lands any day.

The Tatas had moved a petition challenging the rules of the Singur Act framed on June 23 for implementing the Act to return lands to unwilling owners and seeking stay on returning the lands.

Earlier in their appeal to the court, the Tatas said, "We have been dispossessed without due process of law and we have challenged the provision of the act which says they can come in and take possession forthwith. We say that such a provision is unconstitutional. We have referred to the Supreme Court judgements which say this cannot be done, even if it is the government."
