Rahul Gandhi charms students - and a cop - in Pune

Pune:  Rahul Gandhi spent an hour interacting with college students in Pune on Tuesday.

Students asked him tough questions about farmer suicides in Maharashtra.

The Congress' General Secretary invited them to brain storm on the "there are two Indias - one for the rich and the other for the poor" theme that he has referred to repeatedly in his recent speeches.

Gandhi stressed to the students that they should join politics and help shape India's future.

There are three ways of entering politics, he said. To thunderous applause, he said the first method applied to him: "it depends on your last name."

When a lady constable intervened, Gandhi accepted her question, joking, "You must have been a student at some point." Further applause from the young crowd.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi visited a college in Akola, where students were asked to take off their footwear before entering the auditorium, possibly as a way of preventing shoes from being hurled at the politician.
