This mobile app will allow people in Delhi to lodge FIRs

New Delhi: Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is expected to launch a mobile app on Thursday for people in Delhi to lodge First Information Reports or FIRs related to theft and lost articles.

The minister will also launch the website page, which can be used to file complaints with the Delhi Police.

Delhi Police officials met officers at the Home ministry today to finalise the look of the app and also to test it. Using this app, people in Delhi can generate an e-FIR, which can be printed and will be considered as a valid police complaint.

The app has been designed to be available on iPhones, Windows as well as Android phones.

Two weeks ago, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi had announced the initiative which allows people in Delhi to lodge FIRs online. This was mainly done to encourage people to report petty crimes like these, and also to address the issue of police apathy towards such crimes.

Sources in Delhi Police say that soon they may be able to extend the service for other crimes as well.
