Madrid: A nightclub on the Spanish holiday island of Majorca where a young woman performed oral sex on several men reportedly in exchange for free drinks was ordered shut for a year by local authorities on Friday.

The Playhouse club in the resort of Magaluf and Carnage Magaluf, the firm that organised a pub crawl to the nightclub, will also have to pay a fine of 55,000 euros ($73,000), Calvia town hall said in a statement.

The punishment was imposed after a police probe concluded that "a collective fellatio" -- caught on camera and spread around on online social networks -- took place at the nightclub, it added.

Calvia mayor Manuel Onieva ordered a full investigation after a video posted on YouTube showing a blonde woman, wearing red shorts and a white tank top, performing oral sex on several men on the dance floor of a Magaluf nightclub went viral and sparked headlines around the world.

The crowd can be heard cheering her on in the video, which lasts over two minutes as music plays.

Local newspaper Mallorca Diario reported that Magaluf nightclubs were staging contests in which young women "must perform a certain number of fellatios to men at the bar in a minimum amount of time".

The winner would receive free drinks during her entire vacation, it added.

Onieva announced on July 11 that companies that organise pub crawls in Magaluf, which is popular with youths from Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia, would now have to apply for a licence from Calvia town hall.

They also now face fines if they surpass a 50-person limit.
