Car collides with Los Angeles's Expo rail train, 6 injured

Los Angeles: Police say six people were injured after the car they were riding in ran a red light and collided with a light rail train in downtown Los Angeles.

Sgt. Greg Hoyt says the sedan struck a Metropolitan Transportation Authority Expo line train as it was conducting a test run Saturday afternoon.

Everyone in the car was injured. A spokeswoman for California Hospital Medical Center says three were in serious condition. The others were taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Footage from TV news helicopters shows the driver side of the vehicle crushed against the train as firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pull the driver out.

MTA spokesman Jose Ubaldo says warning signs on the track were working at the time.
