As Karnataka Drops Medical Bill Amendments, Questions On Its Effectiveness

An amended Bill was passed in the Karnataka legislature this week that affects all private hospitals and nursing homes -- and millions of patients who use them. There was drama before the introduction of that Bill with private doctors protesting against some of the proposed provisions. These included capping of charges for patients and possible jail terms for doctors who violated the rules. Those amendments were, however, dropped. Is it a watered down Bill because of pressure from the private medicine lobby?
