Tata Steel Kolkata 25K 2023 Event Ambassador and former Welsh 110m hurdles world record holder Colin Jackson urged Indian athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics not to be intimidated by the hype and the environment. Instead, he advised them to concentrate on their preparations. He also described India as a "sleeping giant" in world athletics. Mr Jackson publicly came out as gay in an interview with Swedish television promoting the series "Rainbow Heroes" in 2017, after publicly denying he was gay in a 2004 autobiography and a 2008 newspaper interview. Since then, he has been open about his sexuality and has become an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.
