Mamata Brings SIR Battle To Delhi, Threatens To Mobilise Lakhs Over Voter Roll Issue

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took her dispute over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls to the national capital, meeting the top three Election Commission officials. During the meeting, she warned she could mobilise lakhs of people in Delhi to protest before the Election Commission. Sources said Banerjee repeatedly raised allegations and reportedly “beat her hand on the table” despite officials maintaining restraint. Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari described her visit as “dramabazi” (an act). With the West Bengal assembly elections underway and all major parties, including the ruling BJP at the Centre, campaigning actively, Banerjee has accused the Election Commission of unfairly targeting Bengal in the voter roll clean-up exercise, potentially excluding genuine voters.
