Vaishno Devi Yatra To Resume From September 14 After Landslide Repairs

Ahead of the Navratri 2025 celebrations, devotees can now plan their pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi starting Sunday, September 14, 2025, subject to favourable weather conditions. The yatra had been temporarily suspended following a deadly landslide triggered by heavy rains on August 26. The incident, which occurred near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari, claimed 34 lives and left several others injured. It took place roughly halfway along the 12-kilometre trek from Katra to the shrine.

Persistent rainfall had blocked tracks leading to the shrine, making the journey unsafe for pilgrims. In addition, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway faced disruptions at multiple points due to landslides and road damage, further affecting connectivity to the pilgrimage site. After completing essential maintenance work on the trekking route, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board confirmed the resumption of the yatra on its official X handle.

Measures For Pilgrims Resuming The Yatra

Pilgrims are advised to carry valid identification, follow designated pathways, and cooperate with on-ground staff, ANI reported. Use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based tracking will remain mandatory to ensure transparency and traceability during the pilgrimage.

The prolonged suspension had caused disappointment among devotees, while local businesses that rely on the yatra had faced economic challenges. The Shrine Board expressed gratitude to devotees for their patience and understanding during this period.

"The resumption of the yatra marks a reaffirmation of our collective faith and resilience. The Board remains committed to upholding the sanctity, safety, and dignity of this revered pilgrimage," the statement added.
