India's largest airline, IndiGo, cancelled over 500 domestic and international flights across airports in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru because of “operational disruptions,” impacting travel plans of hundreds of passengers. From 2–4 December, the abrupt disruption saw thousands of passengers stranded, triggered long queues at terminals, and raised questions about what led to the sudden collapse of schedules.

Of the 550 flights that were cancelled, Delhi airport accounted for around 172 on Thursday. Mumbai followed with 118 cancellations, while Bengaluru recorded 100. Hyderabad saw 75 cancellations, Kolkata 35, Chennai 26, and Goa 11. Several other airports across the country also reported cancellations.

This disruption has caused chaos at airports, with passengers struggling to get their luggage for over 12 hours, no food, and no water. Following the chaotic scenes, the airline has now issued a “heartfelt” apology to its customers and stakeholders. In an X post, shared on 4 December, the airline said, “IndiGo teams are working diligently and making all efforts with the support of MOCA, DGCA, BCAS, AAI and airport operators to reduce the cascading impact of these delays and restore normality. We continue to keep our customers apprised of any changes to their scheduled flights and advise them to check the latest status at https://goindigo.in/check-flight-status.html before heading to the airport.”

2. Select "Plan B" - that helps you change, cancel or process a refund
