1. UK Moves To A Fully Digital E-Visa System

The UK has transitioned to a digital visa system for travellers, including Indian applicants. Since 25 February 2026, visas are issued electronically instead of being stamped or pasted into passports. Under the new system, travellers must create a UKVI account to access and manage their visa details online. The overall visa application process remains the same, but applicants no longer need to submit their passport for a physical visa sticker. The shift is part of the UK's broader effort to modernise border systems and move towards a fully digital immigration process.

2. Japan Visa Applications In Some Indian Cities Now Require Appointments

Indian travellers applying for a Japan visa at certain centres must now secure an appointment before visiting the visa application facility. From 2 March 2026, the new rule applies to VFS centres in Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad and Puducherry. Applicants can only view available slots after entering their details online and booking an appointment in advance. Previously, many applicants could walk in and submit their documents directly. The change aims to better manage crowding and streamline the visa submission process.

3. France Plans Easier Student Visa Pathways For Indians

France is looking to significantly expand opportunities for Indian students over the coming years. The development follows discussions between Narendra Modi and Emmanuel Macron during Macron's visit to India in February 2026. France aims to increase the number of Indian students studying in the country to 30,000 by 2030. To support this goal, authorities are working towards simplifying visa procedures, reducing processing delays and expanding post-study opportunities. Officials are also discussing a possible visa-free airport transit pilot, which could make connecting flights through French airports easier for Indian travellers.

4. Sri Lanka Introduces A Digital Nomad Visa

Sri Lanka has launched a digital nomad visa that allows remote workers, including Indians, to live in the country while working for employers or clients abroad. The visa allows eligible applicants to stay in Sri Lanka for up to one year, with the option to renew annually. To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old and earn a minimum monthly income of $2,000 while working for companies outside Sri Lanka. Applications can be submitted online through the country's immigration portal.

5. VFS Global Shifts Visa Centre In New Delhi

Travellers applying for certain European visas in Delhi should note a location change. Visa applications for countries such as the UK, Ireland, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Malta, Norway, Slovenia and Sweden are now processed at a new VFS centre in Connaught Place. Since 12 January 2026, applications and passport collections for these countries have moved to VFS Global House, 27 Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi. The new facility is expected to increase processing capacity and ease congestion during peak travel periods.

6. Visa-Free Travel To Armenia For Indians

Armenia has introduced a temporary visa‑free entry policy for eligible Indian nationals in 2026. Indian passport holders with valid residence permits from the US, EU or Schengen countries, and GCC nations such as the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia can visit Armenia without a visa for up to 180 days between January 1 and July 1, 2026, provided their permits are valid for at least six months.
