Hidden deep below the green hills in Jharkhand is India's rich uranium resource. At Narwapahar in Jadugoda town, mining operations are highly mechanised, there are no rusty lifts. Here, one can drive into mines through the kilometres of underground highways that leads one to the uranium ore.

Facing iron ore crunch for the first time in over 100 years of its history, Tata Steel is now operating its 9.7 million tonnes per annum facility in Jamshedpur with raw material bought from domestic sources besides imports.

India commissioned a uranium ore mine and processing plant in the state on Friday which is estimated to have one of the most significant uranium reserves in the world and could fuel 25 percent of the country's nuclear plants.
