The Supreme Court today said issues related to the 2G spectrum case were "highly sensitive" and no officer investigating the matter should be "under any cloud" on a petition against an Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer probing the Aircel-Maxis case.

The bail granted to Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram, in the INX Media case, has been challenged in the Supreme Court by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The 46-year-old businessman was granted bail by the Delhi High Court in March after being questioned by the agency while in its custody for 23 days.

The Supreme Court has given the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, a six-month deadline to complete the investigations into the cases linked to the 2G scam, including the Aircel-Maxis deal.

A day after a special court said there was no proof of a scam in the allocation of 2G spectrum licences in 2007-8 when the Congress was in power and A Raja was Telecom Minister, a Supreme Court judge who had scrapped 122 licences allocated by Mr Raja calling them illegal, has set the record straight.
