Police have arrested a 62-year-old former village sarpanch for allegedly raping a minor girl in Maharashtra's Palghar district, an official said today.

Sarpanch who slapped woman teacher arrested, released on bail
Balwinder Singh, the Akali Dal sarpanch who brutally slapped a woman teacher at a public function in Punjab yesterday, was arrested this evening under the provisions of section 323 (slapping) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code. Mr Singh was, however, bailed out within hours of his arrest after a bond of Rs. 50,000 was deposited.
