Sand Mining Scam

Fake challans were made mentioning e-rickshaws, motorcycles and cars that were used to transport sand from different ghats in Bihar in what could be a major illegal mining scam, according to a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General.

AAP leader Raghav Chadha on Monday said Punjab governor B L Purohit has asked the state police chief to probe into the alleged illegal sand mining racket in the state.

The CBI on Tuesday carried out searches at 11 locations in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh after filing a fresh FIR in connection with a sand mining scam against 12 people, including two senior IAS officers serving as secretaries in the UP government, officials said.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) said today that it has registered two more cases of money laundering in its ongoing probe into the illegal sand mining cases in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi and Shamli districts.

Hours after CBI chief Alok Verma resignedfollowing his removal from the top post by a panel led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a Delhi court asked the agency to investigate its number 2 Rakesh Asthana in a bribery case, former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav quipped"who will investigate the CBI?"
