At least eight people were killed including one in Ranchi due to heavy rain and lightning strikes in Jharkhand in the last 24 hours, an official said on Monday.

Scores of cars were submerged in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi on Saturday after heavy showers over the last 24 hours deluged the capital city.

The Odisha Cricket Association has already sought requisite permission from the police to use the chopper for drying the outfield at Barabati Stadium. The fourth ODI in Ranchi was abandoned due to rain and only 54.1 overs were possible.

Chasing 296, India were 27 for no loss in 4.1 overs in when heavens opened up for the second time during the match.

In the first innings, George Bailey (98) shared an enterprising record 136-ball 153-run stand for the fifth wicket with the dangerous Glenn Maxwell (92) as Australia posted 295/8. Rain brought a stop to proceedings with India at 27/0 in 4.1 overs.
